Background
From a 1980 Kenner Toy Fair catalog:
Look out, Rebel Snow Soldiers! Molded like snow
peaks, this thrill-packed play environment looks like the ice-planet
HOTH. Place the IMPERIAL SNOW STORMTROOPERS in strategic attack
positions. For defense, press the ice-levers, and the action figures are
knocked down in mock battle. There's even a plastic radar laser cannon
for added action. But beware Rebels! The threatening All-Terrain
Armored Transport - ATAT "WALKERS" - has a manually operated elevator
which can be used to take up captured Rebel Action Figures or IMPERIAL
STORMTROOPERS.
The Hoth Ice Planet Action Playset only consisted of a plastic
base and cardboard backdrop. The base of this playset was previously molded
in tan plastic for the Land of the Jawas Playset and was later converted again
into the Sears exclusive Rebel Command Center.
Additionally, the Hoth Ice Planet used an AT-AT backdrop that was virtually
identical in construction to the Sandcrawler of the Land of the Jawas. Instead
of the Escape Pod that was included with the earlier playset, the Hoth set contained
a radar laser cannon.
