BackgroundFrom a 1983 Kenner in-package catalog: "It's an authentic replica of the REBEL vehicle that fought off THE EMPIRE ships in STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI. Our B-WING FIGHTER has a unique gravity-controlled cockpit. So even if you "fly" the B-WING upside-down, the cockpit (and the Action Figure you put inside it) will always be "right-side up". The B-WING is well equipped for battle -- with laser cannons and sounds. To operate the side wings, just turn one of the rear engine pods. You can even raise and lower the landing gear." The B-Wing was part of the last line of ships that Kenner produced in ROJ packaging. Along with the other late Jedi releases, the Imperial Shuttle and TIE Interceptor, this vehicle is one of the harder ships to find today. When the B-Wing debuted in 1984 it was a relatively expensive ship, retailing at $27.99 in the 1984 JC Penney Christmas Catalog. For the purpose of comparison, the TIE Interceptor listed at $19.99 and the Y-Wing at $22.99. The more common X-Wing and Millennium Falcon were not offered in the '84 catalog but were available through the '83 catalog at $16.99 and $36.99 respectively.
